Gunawardene is the family name of this tea producer, located near the southern Sri ankan town of Akuressa and within the lowland Ruhuna tea-producing region. Tea bushes flourish in this area's hot, humid weather with its abundant rainfall, growing faster than in the highlands. These faster growing leaves are larger and more succulent, perfect for producing Orange Pekoe A - the longest leaf grade of Ceylon tea. This variety is an exceptional example of an OPA tea, with its dark black, long leaves. Our tasters loved the medium body and sweet, caramel-like taste.
